We talk in a very nice chat
with the Mundo Rock web magazine editor, Gisele Santos.
This web magazine has five years of existence and a very
general editorial line, but with a great space to Heavy
Metal. Check it out her opinions and have a nice fun
time!
 1- Tell us a little bit
about the Mundo Rock’s history!
Gisele Santos - Well, I started to do the site as
soon I was outting from the Guia Lazer (where I created
the Galera Hoje website, na inactive stuuf today) and in
fact it was a very personal site, ‘cause I even liked
Rock. I just published shows dates in Sao Paulo, I made
commentaries about some gigs ans parties I came and I
almost didn’t up date. I housed this site in
geocities and later I registered the space as
“.com.br”.
2- Well, I
suppose that the magazine’s name is Mundo Rock because
you want and have the general Rock as the main editorial
line. Why this editorial line?
Gisele - Yeah! The Mundo Rock talks about all kind of
Rock. This editorial line is very actual and, as I said
before, I always loved Rock and as the time went passing,
the site increased its content, winning more visitors
that love our job too.
3- I see a
lot of webzines working, up dating their content dialy,
doing interviews, searching for the complete vitor’s
information. However, I feel a certain angry about some
recorders we work with. Do you fight this same
problem?
Gisele - Today I have been work very nice with
the recorders and there’s so many web magazines, mainly
press stuff (the main preference from the producers and
recorders, etc.), I cannot complain. They send us all
cds, releases and offer the best interview
also.
4- Don’t
you being politic, right Gisele? And how about the gigs,
the event’s access. There’s a producer very bad to work
when we talk about the access in their
events.
Gisele - No
man, I’m sincere. I battled very much to divulg the site
and today it’s more calm with recorders. Well, about the
gigs... There’s some producers that have press
assessorship and I think that it’s more easy and
organized, but unfortunately the quota is very small and
it’s a huge conquest to us when we obtain the “all
access” in the events. A lot of people make their job
really bad, asking to us to divulg their event and in
the gig time, they don’t wanna give us the access, nor
don’t answer our e-mails, there’s no press assessorship,
etc. It’s a holy shit! (laughs).
5- Could
you say that the Heavy Metal today is a the most
operating segment in the Rock music under the
Brazil?
 Gisele - That’s right! I
can say this seeing the gig (internationals and
nationals), everytime full of people and a loto f people
fighting to buy their CDs in the Galeria do Rock (São
Paulo/Brazil) and they “sweat” to buy the gig’s tickets,
always expensives. The guys sing all songs, dress their
favorite’s bands t-shirts, etc. The underground scene is
very cool also and the people always are “on air” to
give the strenght that the groups need.
6- Today
you have a great staff to help you in the site. Was it
so hard to find the right people to work with you on the
Mundo Rock?
Gisele -
Man, it was very very hard to find! A lot of people just
wanna win free tickets to gigs. This year I found the
right people and now we have a mailling list to tread
all infos. Then, they send news, agendas, etc. Also help
me in the concert’s reviews, specially here in Sao
Paulo, where happens a lot of things and it should be
impossible for me to do everything by my own
only.
7 –
Recently, you are with a radio program. How did you
obtain this? Tell us the details.
Gisele - Well, I was working in another radio
station but it isn’t working to me but a lot of people
liked my job there and I confess I liked too (laughs)
and I resolved to create the Mundo Rock radio. There’s 8
sessions into the program and asap I’ll put 3 more. Now
the radio adress is www.radiomundorock.com.br Soon it’ll
be 24h on air and 75% of the programs will be presented
alive.
8- So, is
it na online radio? Just to hear by internet?
Gisele - I
made just the Mundo Rock program in the other radio
station and now I created the Mundo Rock radio. Besides
the online portal, now we have a web radio also. We make
partnerships with the guys from Rota 77 and soon the
guys from Lado B and Contramão will be together with
us.
9- What
happened to the another radio program didn’t work?
Gisele - It
was a web radio also, but the people form there couldn’t
work serious with the programs’ time and sometimes they
didn’t put my programo n air. I stayed vey angry with
them! I think the people should be more professional,
responsable and to respect the audience. They talk a
thing but they do another, do you know what I mean?
 10- Recently, you wan
indicated as personality in the Claro premium in the
Indepedent Music category. Did you stayed
surprised?
Gisele - Of
course and I was touched when I was indicated. To concur
besides Kid Vinil, who I love so much... It was a honour
to me. Very nice!
11- You
deserve. Forgive me to ask but in your radio program
just play Rock?
Gisele -
Yeah, all kinda: Rock, Metal, Punk, HC, Pop stuff...
soon we’ll play Rap and Soul also. But we won’t play
Brazilian country music, don’t worry
(laughs).
12- Rap,
Soul? Forgive me lady but is it Rock?
Gisele - Yeah! I
risked in Rap and Soul, ‘cause a lot of people that
enjoy Rock also listen this styles. The Soul program is
produced by the journalist Thiago Furlan.
13- Ok,
maybe I agree with you that some people from Rock also
listen Rap (the worst kind of music to me) and Soul,
besides another styles of course. Particularly I like
MPB, but what I said is I can’t understand why another
kind of music is played in a Rock Radio, do you know
what I mean? But the radio is yours and you must to do
what you want. Did you think already in turns the Mundo
Rock to the paper? To make a press magazine, or a
monthly magazine?
Gisele -
Yeah, but I think that the Rap can play in the radio
‘cause a lot of people enjoy it so much. The Soul isn’t
in the programs yet, it’ll depends by the audience also.
Some people really like this. But if it doesn’t work, we
can take off the Soul from our radio. The Rock prevails
man! Specially to the independent bands. In the Mundo
Rock program this is the law! I think a lot to transform
the Mundo Rock i 14 – Ok, I hope that this
project with the press magazine isn’t so far and I’m
here to be one of the editors ok? But only to work with
Metal! Rap, neeeeeeeeeveeeeeeer! Gisele, it was a huge
pleasure did this interview with you. It delayed so much
because your mother’s health but I know she’s very nice
now! I’d like to say that even we don’t meet each other
face to face, I like you very much. You had always been
very likeable, besides your great job in the Mundo Rock.
